Ayrton Senna already made a strong impression in his debut season in Formula 1 in 1984, with an incredible second place at the Monaco Grand Prix under the rain, and two more podiums in Great Britain and Portugal
In 1985, the Brazilian driver switched to Team Lotus, driving for a Formula 1 top team for the first time. An opportunity that Ayrton soon made the most of.
At the Portuguese Grand Prix, the second race of the year, Senna started from pole position making himself the author of an unchallenged drive in the wet, showing all his driving skills in low-grip conditions.
On his way to his maiden Formula 1 victory, Senna crossed the finish line more than a minute ahead of the runner-up, and lapping all the other cars.
In the continuation of the 1985 Formula 1 championship, Senna took another win in Belgium, four podium finishes, and a total of seven pole positions, finishing fourth overall in the standings.
